We are pleased to announce that a new software product will soon be available to help you organize and keep track of your data.

Many laboratories accumulate very large amounts of data. Numerous data files are scattered across hard drives, CDs, DVDs, backup tapes, etc.

It is often hard to find the files you need. The situation becomes even more difficult when graduate students or postdocs leave the lab or you are moving the lab to another school.

NexLibrary will provide a solution to this data management problem:

  • NexLibrary uses hybrid data storage model:
    • Data files are stored in shared drives
    • The metadata is stored in a Microsoft SQL Server database
  • Original data files are preserved. Very large data files (up to several GB) are supported
  • Files are linked to specific projects and experiments
  • Processed (spike sorted) files are linked to original data files
  • Histology images of recording sites are linked to data files
  • Support for grant proposals and publications:
    • All the data files and templates/scripts used in preparation of proposals or publications can be stored and retrieved later
  • Flexible search options
  • Data from old projects can be archived and restored
  • Stand-alone and NeuroExplorer clients will be available
  • Clients utilize Microsoft .Net technology and can be accessed from many applications via COM interface

Anticipated NexLibrary release date is April, 2008.
