Here is a list of the main improvements
in Version 3:
Import of Axon Instruments ABF files.
Four new analyses:
-- Epoch counts (similar to perievent histograms but with arbitrary
size bins)
-- Coherence analysis for spike and continuous data
-- Place Cell Analysis. Includes 6 types of displays and bicubic spline color interpolation
-- Reverse Correlation analysis. Used in vision research. Shows what 2D pattern caused a neuron to fire.
Arbitrary confidence limits for autocorellograms, perievent
histograms and crosscorrelograms.
Undo/redo functionality is available in
graphics/analysis view. Nex saves the states of the analysis windows in the
default Windows temp directory. A user can then "replay" the previous
states of the window by either selecting Undo and Redo menu items in Edit menu
or by pressing Ctrl+Z or Ctrl+Y.
Significantly improved 1D view with the following features:
- Printing support with print preview,
- Faster drawing of continuous data
- Status bar showing x,y position and interspike interval
- Results of bursts analysis (burst intervals) are shown on top of the spikes. Very easy to see bursts.
- Ability to manually add events by clicking in 1D view
- Y Axes for continuous variables and waveforms
New perievent rasters graphics options. Nex can display colored markers in
perievent rasters. Perievent
raster thickness can be set separately from the thickness of the histogram below
the raster.

Copying graphics and analysis text into a Power Point slide with a single button click. Very powerful tool to save analysis results.

More interactivity in Nex windows:
- Tooltips for histograms showing time, bin limits and bin value for the histogram bin below the pointer
- Status bar showing x,y coordinates of the pointer
- Color coded spreadsheets with tooltips for every button.
Unlimited subfolders in Templates and Script views.
Ability to save 3D animations as .AVI files.
File extension management. A user can assign any file extension to any file type.
Saving and restoring analyses together with link to data.
Color scale is displayed for PSTH versus Time and Trial Bin Counts analyses
Operations Join, Shift and IntervalFilter can be applied
to continuous variables.
Each graphics view and !D view can have it's
own list of active variables.
Background coloring for perievent rasters.
